New Territory

"A Chance Meeting"

“A Chance Meeting” 44″x32″ oil on canvas

This is a recent painting…just drying.  I wanted to paint the things around me instead of dreaming of far off beauties.  It’s time to see my own territory, and find the things that immediately bring me pleasure.

Elk surround us in Western Colorado.  Unfortunately, their images are mostly found in hunting propaganda, or freshly shot with the proud hunter holding up the rack.  Hunting is an important part of our heritage, way of life and maybe simply it’s a part of life.  But I love to see the elk in their natural environment.  Here he is, in all of his glory.  They are huge animals with a presence like none other.
